ELSEC Update
27/03/2025
Early Language Support for Every Child is an initiative from the Department for Education to help promote improved early interventions for children who demonstrate language and communication difficulties. PACC sit on the steering group for this work as we recognise that many children with SEND may benefit from this support offer. We also recognise there will be proportion of children where there needs will surpass this support offer and they will need more targeted, and specialist support made available to them. This work falls into the Change Programme activity Shropshire has been part of.
The below update has been provided by the ELSEC lead. Please note that some of the links provided are for information only and will likely have limited access for you to explore.

We are excited to share that we have finished our first round of Talk Boost groups and 75% of these children are now working at the expected standard in speech, language and communication, for their age group. This is fantastic!
We are now reviewing all children who still need support, setting up new groups for them and are continuing to upskill staff in settings. Two of these new groups are Concept Cat and BEST (Building Early Sentence Therapy):
BEST examples:
DEMO: The girl is walking
In the ELSEC schools, the team are working with children’s speech and language therapy (SALT) to support children in Reception and Year 1, who need BEST and who are on the waiting list. The ELSEC / SALT team will contact the parents of these children to explain more about what this will mean.
This term we have offered training to every member of staff in every ELSEC setting on ‘Understanding and using questions’, trained school staff to use other speech and language interventions and have invited parents of the nursery children, that we have identified would benefit from support, to attend workshops with their child.
